FAQs

Do I need a script from my doctor? Can this take place of a diagnostic exam?

We do not require a script from your doctor for our elective ultrasound exams. However, you need to be under the care of a doctor or midwife. You will need to sign our waiver with your healthcare provider’s information. This ultrasound is an elective service and should never be done in place of a diagnostic ultrasound or to gain medical advice even though the Technologist is trained to perform diagnostic ultrasounds. If any anomalies are suspected during your scan, your Doctor will be notified during their normal business hours and it will be at their discretion to notify you if they deem it necessary.

How much water should I drink and do I need to have a full bladder? What about food? Can I eat before I come?

We highly recommend our moms to drink about 2 gallons of water 4 -5 days leading up to your appointment. Water prep is CRUCIAL to the image quality! It is helpful to have a full bladder especially if you are in your first trimester and beginning of second trimester. The goal is for the mom to be very well hydrated, promoting the most amniotic fluid around the baby in the womb. It is VISIBLY obvious in the clarity of the fluid.
If you have not been good about drinking your water, start now and set your appointment ahead to allow at least 1 week of time as this often helps. You may eat a small snack before you come. NO DAIRY, it will create gas.

Are 3d/4d/5d Ultrasound safe?

Over the last 40 years of studies, no harm to the mother or baby has been proven. Ultrasound uses sound waves to obtain an image, not radiation. 3D/4D/iLive uses the same technology using sound waves to produce the image. Royal baby imaging is a licensed professional and knows FDA recommendations for scan length and frequency of sound waves. We have also invested in the newest and safest portable ultrasound system with the latest technologies and software to ensure safety as well as quality.
